HOW TO USE ICEC FTP

If you do not have access to Netscape 3.0 (or higher) or Explorer 4.0 (or higher) in the Windows 95 or the Macintosh environment, please submit a copy of the electronic file containing your paper using the following procedure.

Access the ICEC'98 Homepage and click the "Paper Submission" button to register. Fill out the Paper Submission Form except for the fifth sections labeled "5. Paper File".
Upon completion of the registration, you will receive a registration number. Name your file using the registration number followed by an extension of the software used to create the file. For instance, if your registration number is w1234 and you have created the file with Word 7.0 on the PC, your file name should be "w1234.doc".
The name of the ICEC ftp server is icec.net. Place your file under the icec98 directory which is under the pub directory.

Your paper should use formats:
.ps(PostScript Format), .pdf(Portable Document Format), .txt(ASCII text Format), .rtf(Rich Text Format)

For detailed instructions on how to submit paper file to the icec ftp, click on the system that you will be using:

Windows 95/3.1/NT
MS-DOS
Unix
Macintosh

To submit a paper file to the icec ftp via Windows wsftp tool:
(You need winzip tool and wsftp tool. You can download these tools using the save link on the right mouse click menu. And you may install this tool by double clicking.)

First, if your paper file is comprised of more than one file:

Use the winzip tool to archive the files into a single archive or to compress the file size.

Submitting via wsftp:

first click the new button
then fill out the fields like this
Give your email address as the password
In the right window, click pub directory and click icec98 directory.
In the left window, select your paper file and send it.

This will place a copy of your paper file in the icec98 directory of the icec ftp site. The ftp site and the ftp Web pages will be updated daily to include all newly submitted paper file.

To submit a paper file to the icec ftp via DOS PC ftp:

First, if your paper file is comprised of more than one file:

Use pkzip to archive and compress the files into a single archive.

Submitting via ftp:

ftp to
```
icec.net
```
login as
```
anonymous
```
give your email address as the password
type
```
cd pub/icec98<return>
```
type
```
put <name of paper file><return> 
```

This will place a copy of your paper in the icec98 directory of the icec ftp. The ftp site and ftp Web pages will be updated daily to include all newly submitted paper file.

To submit a paper file to the icec ftp via Unix ftp:

First, if your paper file is comprised of more than one file:

Use the unix tar command to archive the files into a single archive. Here is an example:
```
tar -cvf <archive file> <list of paper file>
```

Next, do one of the following:

Use the unix compress command to compress <archive file> if you have archived your paper file with tar, or simply the paper file if you only need to send one file. Here is an example:
```
compress <archive file >
```
This produces a file named <archive file>.Z which you may submit to the icec ftp with its accompanying paper file.
Use GNU gzip to compress <archive file> if you have archived your paper file with tar, or simply the paper file if you only need to send one file. Here is an example:
```
gzip <archive file>
```
This produces a file named <archive file>.gz which you may submit to the icec ftp archives with its accompanying paper file.

Submitting via ftp:

ftp to
```
icec.net
```
login as
```
anonymous
```
give your email address as the password
type
```
cd pub/icec98<return>
```
type
```
put <name of paper file><return>
```

This will place a copy of your paper file in the icec98 directory of the icec ftp. The ftp site and ftp Web pages will be updated daily to include all newly submitted paper file.

To submit a paper file to the icec ftp via Macintosh Fetch:

Launch Fetch
In the Host field type:
```
icec.net
```
In the User ID field type:
```
anonymous
```
Type your email address in the Password field
In the Directory field type:
```
/pub/icec98
```
Once Fetch has connected, click on the Put File... button in the Fetch window. This will display a listing of files on your hard disk. Locate your abstract and double click on its name. Choose Text from the Format menu in the window that appears.
Click on the Put File... button again, and locate your paper file. Double click on its name, then choose BinHex from the Format menu in the window that appears.
Click on the OK button to transfer a copy of your paper to the icec ftp site. Depending on the size of the file, and the speed of your connection, this may take anywhere from a few seconds (very fast connections or very small files), to several minutes (most likely), to possible an hour or so (only on very slow connections).
Click on the Close Connection button in the Fetch window to close the connection.

This will place a copy of your paper in the icec98 directory of the icec ftp archive. The ftp site and ftp Web pages will be updated daily to include all newly submitted paper files.
